ILCA Harken Mk2 Vang Lower Unit

The new Harken ILCA MK2 Vang Lower Unit is a unique design that improves on the legacy Harken vang lower unit that has been loved by ILCA sailors since the introduction of the 15:1 vang. Every sheave is larger diameter for more power and wider for less friction, so the unit will better enable today's increased vang loads. And yet, by rendering it in Harken's proven Carbo nylon-reinforced composite material, the unit is 21% lighter than the current stainless steel version. The whole unit is a bit more aero friendly to the eye and shouldn't foul the cunningham or outhaul controls. All sheaves are Harken Fly with stainless bearing running in stainless races. The last turn before the mico Cammatic is a lightweight stainless derrule which replaces the fairlead in earlier designs. The cleating angle has been made to match the existing standard but there's a wedge in there for those who would like to experiment. The system's design anticipates the sailors may wish to remove some system purchase to reduce the amount of line in the cockpit - it easily converts from 12:1 to 12:1 and back again.
